There are multiple characters that players will meet through the progression of the game. Most characters are associated with an episode; many appear in only one episode, and not anywhere else, either in-game or in related media (save the denormal second appearance).
Since April Fools 2020, only a few characters have appeared regularly in the game. Below is a list of the most frequently seen characters introduced early in the game, and still appearing regularly as of now.
Tiffi[]
- Main article: Tiffi
Tiffi, short for Toffette, is the protagonist of the game. She's the blonde squat girl with pigtails. She will be joyful if you pass a level, and if you get 3 stars for a level, she will be very happy. But she will cry if you fail a level. She also introduces the ingredients levels. You will encounter her in Candy Town, the very first episode in the game, though a few episodes, such as Sweet Surprise, features her as the main character.
Mr. Toffee[]
- Main article: Mr. Toffee
He is the deuteragonist of the game. Mr. Toffee helps out along the way. He's the man who will tell you how to do a level type. He walks the player through the tutorial at the beginning of the game and introduces each level. You will encounter him in Candy Town, the very first episode in the game. He's also the adoptive father of Tiffi and Kimmy.
Roberta[]
- Main article: Roberta
He is a candy processing robot that is introduced in Candy Factory, the second episode in the game. At the beginning of this episode, he is malfunctioning, but Tiffi poured soda into him to make him function again. He made occasional appearances in later episodes, such as Wiggly Wheel before April Fools 2020, but otherwise his involvement in events is limited.
Denize[]
- Main article: Denize
Denize is a large, amphibious eastern dragon best known for residing in a lake of lemonade. Debuting in the game's third episode, named after the lake, she is among the game's earliest characters. Tiffi finds her sad that the lake inexplicably runs dry and refills it at the end of the episode. Her next two appearances are at the end of Fudge Islands, where she assists baker Berry in retrieving a lost utensil, and Lullaby Lake, where Tiffi uses storytelling to help her fall asleep. The pillager Hilda designed her boat to resemble Denize's species.
After April Fools 2020, her first appearance is now Episode 4, also named Lemonade Lake.
Mr. Yeti[]
- Main article: Mr. Yeti
Mr. Yeti is the protagonist of the game and is Tiffi's best friend. Mr. Yeti runs the Yeti Shop, where you can purchase gifts and boosters. He is first encountered in Chocolate Mountains (4th episode). There, he was seen snoozing at the top, where Tiffi wants to wake him up. Tiffi shouts to him, he wakes up and thanks her. He reappears in Toffee Tower where he's asleep on the top of the tower. Tiffi wakes him up again by using an air horn, and he falls. Mr. Yeti also introduces the timed levels at the game's inception.
After April Fools 2020, he appears in Chocolate Mountain, the eighth episode.
Misty[]
- Main article: Misty
Tiffi encounters her in Minty Meadow, where she needs a horn. Her horn is missing again as she celebrates with Tiffi in Sweet Surprise. At the Biscuit Bungalow, she uses her horn to burst the bubble of gum surrounding Pete's bungalow. In the 66th episode, Soda Swamp, she is bathing with Bobby in the swamp filled with soda. In Minty Meadow's Dreamworld counterpart, Lollipop Lanterns, she is seen with a dreamy palette-swap.
After April Fools 2020, she now makes an earlier debut, Episode 3, the first Lollipop Meadow.
Bubblegum Troll[]
- Main article: Bubblegum Troll (character)
Bubblegum Troll is the most frequent antagonist in the Candy Crush Saga. Tiffi first encounters him in Bubblegum Bridge, where he steals all of her candy; in Sweet Surprise, as he came out from the cake as a surprise; in Pudding Pagoda where he is trying to wreck the cat's pagoda; and in Butterscotch Boulders when he blocks the train's way in chocolate. He is also mentioned in the opening cutscene of Peppermint Palace.
In Flash only, you can use him as a booster to destroy all the chocolate and shut off the fountains for five moves. This is a rarely used booster that was never seen on the mobile version.
After April Fools 2020, he appears in every Bubblegum Hill.
Olivia[]
- Main article: Olivia
Olivia is an octopus captain first seen in Wafer Wharf, the 10th episode of the game, where Candy Order levels were originally introduced in. Her boat was broken, but Tiffi managed to repair the boat using bubblegum.
After April Fools 2020, she appears in every Soda Sea (fhe first one also being the 10th episode), along with another vessel.
Odus[]
- Main article: Odus
Odus is the main mascot of the now-decommissioned Dreamworld. He carries Tiffi off to Dreamworld when Tiffi feels tired after helping out all the mascots. He balances, flapping happily on the moon scale, where you will have to balance the scale throughout the levels in Dreamworld. After the whole moon is golden, the game will say 'Moon Struck!'.
Odus started making Reality appearances only after Dozy Dawn. Nowadays, he is one of the ten characters featured in systematically themed episodes, namely Fantastic Forests.
Trivia[]
- There are many other characters who made one-off or event-only appearances.
- There has been a long drought of new characters after Delicious Dynasty, the 100th episode.
- Marshmallow Madness is one of the episodes to feature a booster as a character. The characters are a jellyfish and a polar bear. Also in Fudge Fjord, the lollipop hammer is also featured in the story, where Tiffi gives it to Hilda. Delectable Depths is also one of the examples; free switch appears in the cutscene after the story of the episode.
- On HTML5, after Salty Canyon, no storyline is shown for any other episode, until the release of Bonbon Brambles. However, the characters will appear in the background since version 1.41 (on some devices) and version 1.45 (on all devices).
- After the HTML5 map renovation, Tiffi and all characters appear on the map in animation until Cupcake Circus.
- Bonbon Brambles is the sole episode after the first twelve to feature the characters in animation.
- After the April Fool's Day 2020 event, nearly all characters have been removed from the game. The only surviving ones are the few that appear in the tutorial episodes, with the ten each representing a systematic episode theme. Two new ones (Licorise and Casey the Conductor) were introduced, which had never been seen before from an episode with a nonsystematic map texture.
