There are currently four level types in the game, and some levels are mixed mode. Each type of level has a unique and different objective. Levels are formerly marked with a colour and logo based on their objective; these markings are still used on the wiki.
Level types and properties[]
- Order is by first appearance upon release. The order of first release has been changed by the mass redesign.
Level Type | Description | First Level | Appearances |
---|---|---|---|
Jelly |
These levels are colourcoded blue. The only way to pass these is to clear the amount of jelly in a certain number of moves needed to pass. The only jelly types are single jelly and double jelly. When Sugar Crush occurs, you will get some bonus points, and three Jelly Fish will come out to eat candies at random for every remaining move. |

They are colourcoded green. To pass, the player has to get the required number of ingredients in a certain number of moves. When Sugar Crush occurs, a striped candy for each move leftover will take place and activate. Any special candies left will also be activated. |

Candy Order |
They are colourcoded pink. To progress, the player has to collect a certain number of certain types of candy, and/or make a certain number of combinations. When Sugar Crush occurs, any moves remaining will create a striped candy and activate. This may also happen to any leftover special candy. |

Mixed Mode |
The goal of this level type is combining two other level types' goals. If the level requires crushing jelly and collecting ingredients, the player has to do both of them to complete the level. Mixed levels currently can combine exactly two of the constituent types. |

Rainbow Rapids |
New. They are colourcoded cyan. The player needs to collect rainbow candies to complete the levels. To do this, the player must lead the rainbow rapids from the rainbow cannons to the mold, at which point, the mold will fill up to reveal a rainbow candy, which is then automatically collected. When Sugar Crush occurs, any moves remaining will create a striped candy and activate. This may also happen to any leftover special candy. |

Arena Score | The objective of this level type is to reach the amount of given points to progress.
Arena Score levels have the same function as Moves levels, except that Sugar Crush does not occur when the player reaches the target score. |

Sub-types[]
As of May 2024, "sub level types" have appeared in the game's code. These sub types are used to modify the candy spawning patterns, based on the shape of the board, available space at the start of a level, number of colours, and blocker spawning rate among other things. There are currently six sub types:
- Excavation: A board where you remove blockers in a simple, traditional manner.
- Sniping: A board with elements that you can only access with special candies.
- Puzzle: A complex board that usually involves very specific strategies to pass. Can also be used on the opposite spectrum as a simple level with little to no blockers.
- Endurance: A board that involves blockers that spread or return from cannons (toffee, chocolate, etc).
- Limited Play Space: A board that starts off with very few open spaces, as a result of many sugar coats or other blockers. Can also be used for a level with only a few spaces.
- Explosive: A level with low colors, or alternatively, a level with a lot of special candy spawns or chain reactions.
Trivia[]
- The colours and icons for level types were removed circa April Fools 2020, at the same time Hexagon levels received another appearance change. The level types are now de-emphasized in the game; instead the player will see the specific items required to complete objectives.
- Each Striped Candy created at random during ingredients levels and candy order levels' Sugar Crush will produce 3,000 points.
- Mixed levels are the most dominant levels, making up 41.02% of all levels, whereas rainbow rapids levels are the least dominant, making up only 3.21% of all levels.
- Jelly levels were once voted the hardest type in the 2013-2014 era; the hardest levels throughout the whole game (pre-nerfed level 350 and 461) were jelly levels. Nowadays, mixed levels are considered the hardest.
- 5 episodes consist of only 2 level types. They are Candy Town, Sleepy Slopes, Twilight Egg, and Minty Meadow (Episode 64), and Milestone Meadow.
- After the removal of Flash version, icons for each level type were officially removed from HTML5. On the map screen, all level buttons appear pink to blue depending on whether or not the level is a hexagon level.
- Until November 2022, each level type had a music track associated with it. From 11 November 2022 onwards, the level themes rotate randomly, regardless of the level type. On mobile, moves levels and candy order levels have the same music.
- On November 11-13, the classic level themes, including the one for timed levels, played randomly on rotation.
- On November 14, the game's tenth anniversary, the classic themes were phased out, replaced with new themes.
